Annual wellness visits are incredibly important to provide preventative care as well as detect any illnesses as early as possible. Each pet is unique in their health and lifestyle and has different needs in each stage of life. We will work together to create the best plan to keep them healthy and happy.
It can be scary when a pet is not feeling their best. We are able to perform a variety of on-site diagnostics and send out lab work to best figure out a diagnosis and come up with a treatment plan that will get them back to normal as soon as possible.
Recheck visits are vital to monitoring and treating ongoing conditions. Whether we made the diagnosis or are following up for another doctor, want to make sure your pet's treatment is working as it should. Depending on the condition, established clients may have the option to schedule telehealth appointments.
One of the most difficult, yet kindest things we can do for our pets is give them a peaceful ending when that time comes. We do our best to make sure both patient and owner are as comfortable as possible through this process. We are happy to discuss palliative care plans to make sure that no matter the situation, your pet always has a good quality of life.
Annual herd health visits are important to keeping your herd or flock as healthy and productive as possible. At this time, this service is somewhat limited and up to discretion of the doctor on a case-by-case basis. If you have a small hobby farm or pasture pets, please feel free to inquire. If we can't help, we will do our best to refer to someone in the area who can.
As much as we want to help the community by providing our services, some situations are best handled in an inpatient setting at a fully equipped veterinary hospital. We are happy to share records or reach out to other local clinics or larger referral hospitals in order to coordinate care so that your pet has the best outcome possible.
Please reach us at dr.anna@creaturecomfortvet.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
We offer a wide range of services including preventative care, vaccinations, and diagnosis and treatments of minor illness/injury. We are able to collect blood and other samples to send off for analysis. Some diagnostics such as heartworm tests, fecal testing, and some cytology can be performed on-site to provide a quick diagnosis. Most commonly used medications are carried on the truck to be dispensed so your pet can start feeling better as quick as possible.
At this time we do not have the capability to take radiographs (x-rays). We have an established relationship with VCA Highlands Animal Hospital in which we can coordinate care for any cases requiring this and other follow-up services. We will always try to be as transparent as possible prior to scheduling an appointment if we think that they might require these services. If desired (or indicated) we can coordinate care with any clinic of your choice.
Communicate any special accommodations that your pet may need, whether more time, or medications beforehand to keep them as stress free as possible during their visit. If they have a favorite treat or are really averse to things like touching ears/feet/nails, let us know either while scheduling or on our "New Patient Form" so that we can start off on the right foot and set everyone up for success. Including their history to the best of your knowledge on the form and allowing us to call beforehand for records is also extremely helpful so we can review their history and do any pertinent research prior to their visit.
If you have cats with a sixth sense for vet visits and hide at the drop of a hat, please try your best to contain them either in their carrier 1-2 hours prior to their visit or in a small space such as a bathroom that makes it easier to examine without risk of them getting away. Unfortunately, we only have so much time per appointment. If we cannot locate or catch an animal, we may have to reschedule depending on the situation. If in a carrier, setting them somewhere quiet and with a towel over the carrier can help them to feel safer and calmer prior to their visit. The same applies for small dogs. For larger dogs, having a leash available can help as well if they are nervous or excited and wiggly. We try to bring things such as towels and blankets to each visit, but feel free to incorporate their favorite soft items such as their beds and toys so they have familiar smells and sensations.
Communication is key. There is absolutely no judgement from us towards animals that exhibit these behaviors. Often, we are asking them to undergo uncomfortable procedures with people they just met. Please let us know when scheduling your appointment that your pet(s) may need a little more patience or possibly some pre-visit pharmaceuticals to help keep them calm and comfortable during their visit. We can discuss options and hopefully find the best protocol that works for everyone.
If we have exhausted all options and techniques for safe handling and deem the situation unsafe for the animals and humans involved then we may recommend some alternatives. Depending on the situation, we can either try again another time or refer to a brick and mortar veterinary clinic that has the capability to safely carry out procedures under sedation. In some cases this is in the pets' best interests and will allow for a much more thorough exam or for certain procedures to be done. We will do everything in our power to provide a stress free experience, but know that this is a situation that occurs sometimes.
If not already listed on the "New Patient Form" please bring any medical records or vaccination history for your pet, as well as a list of any current medications they are taking. If your pet has any special dietary restrictions, please let us know so we can accommodate that if we decide to utilize treats during their visit.
